‘Train to Busan’ Director Takes on New Mystery Thriller Movie, ‘Revelations’

Acclaimed South Korean filmmaker Yeon Sang-ho, best known for the 2016 blockbuster ‘Train to Busan’ and its sequel ‘Peninsula,’ has teamed up with Netflix for a new project based on his own Korean webtoon, ‘Revelations.’ This collaboration with Netflix marks another significant venture for Sang-ho with the streaming platform. Adding to the excitement, Oscar-winning director Alfonso Cuarón will serve as executive producer and consultant on the adaptation.

The Hollywood Reporter recently broke the news of this exciting partnership. Sang-ho expressed his enthusiasm about working with Cuarón, stating, “Alfonso Cuarón, known for masterpieces like ‘Children of Men’ and ‘Gravity,’ has greatly influenced my work as a director. I am thrilled at this opportunity to collaborate with him on shaping ‘Revelations,’ and I have high expectations for our partnership.”

Sang-ho has previously collaborated with Netflix, gaining international acclaim with ‘Train to Busan’ and directing projects like the sci-fi feature ‘Jung_E,’ as well as the successful series ‘Hellbound’ and ‘Parasyte: The Maxim.’ ‘Hellbound’ Season 2 is currently in development. Meanwhile, Cuarón, known for his Netflix film ‘Roma,’ is preparing for his next project, the psychological thriller miniseries ‘Disclaimer,’ starring Cate Blanchett and Kevin Kline.

‘Revelations,’ based on Sang-ho’s webtoon, centres on a pastor and a detective investigating a missing persons case. When a man named Yang-rae appears at the pastor’s church, claiming a divine revelation has identified him as the kidnapper of the pastor’s son, a pursuit for justice ensues. The film stars Ryu Jun-yeol as Pastor Min-chan and Shin Hyun-been as Detective Yeon-hee, adding depth to the story with their compelling performances.

The movie marks a reunion between Sang-ho and screenwriter Choi Gyu-seok, who collaborated on ‘Hellbound’ and has worked closely with the director on his webcomics. Produced by Wow Point, a global production company known for projects like ‘The Bequeathed’ and ‘Parasyte: The Maxim,’ ‘Revelations’ aims to captivate global audiences with its intriguing storyline and talented cast.

While a release date for ‘Revelations’ has yet to be announced.
