Warner Bros. Games is undergoing a significant restructuring, realigning its development strategy to centre around four major franchises: ‘Harry Potter’, ‘Mortal Kombat’, the ‘DC Universe’, and ‘Game of Thrones’. The shift, revealed earlier this year following a string of studio closures and the cancellation of a major title, reflects a broader company focus on high-value intellectual property.
The restructuring has not resulted in any layoffs. Instead, it brings a leadership overhaul, with three studio heads promoted to senior vice president roles. These changes are designed to streamline development, production, and the deployment of key technologies and services.
Yves Lachance, previously the head of WB Games Montréal—the studio behind titles like ‘Batman: Arkham Origins’ and ‘Gotham Knights’—will now oversee teams working on future ‘Harry Potter’ and ‘Game of Thrones’ games. Shaun Himmerick, who led NetherRealm Studios, will supervise projects tied to ‘Mortal Kombat’ and the ‘DC Universe’. Meanwhile, Steven Flenory from WB Games New York has been appointed SVP in charge of publishing technology, customer service, QA, and user research.
JB Perrette, CEO of global streaming and games at Warner Bros. Discovery, stated that the company is home to some of the world's most iconic franchises and is refining its internal structure to build long-term plans around these properties. He praised the newly appointed SVPs, describing them as experienced leaders with strong track records, and said he looked forward to working with them to deliver high-quality gaming experiences.

The restructuring comes in the wake of a tough year for Warner Bros. Games, which recorded losses exceeding $300 million in 2024. The financial setback was largely attributed to underwhelming releases like ‘Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’ and ‘MultiVersus’. As a result, the company closed three of its studios in February and scrapped the ‘Wonder Woman’ game that had been in development at Monolith Productions.
At the time, Warner Bros. Games said the company had made difficult but necessary decisions to reallocate its development resources toward its most successful franchises. It reiterated that the priority going forward would be to focus on producing the best possible games within the ‘Harry Potter’, ‘Mortal Kombat’, ‘DC’, and ‘Game of Thrones’ universes.
Warner Bros. Discovery Splits Into Two Media Divisions
This announcement also comes on the heels of Warner Bros. Discovery’s recent decision to split its operations into two distinct media companies—Streaming & Studios and Global Networks—effectively separating its film, television, gaming, and streaming operations from its sports and news branches.
