Yungblud delivered a powerful live rendition of The Verve’s ‘Bittersweet Symphony’ during his appearance on BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge on 17th June. Performing alongside his band and a string section, the artist (real name Dominic Harrison) paid tribute to the 1997 classic just days before the release of part one of his forthcoming double album ‘Idols’, set to arrive on 20th June.

Harrison said the song had always held deep personal meaning for him, describing it as a track that uplifted him during difficult times. He credited Richard Ashcroft and the album ‘Urban Hymns’ as major influences on the creative direction of ‘Idols’, which he aimed to make emotionally rich and timeless. He added that performing the track live on air felt surreal and expressed hope that his version would do it justice.

Alongside the cover, he also performed his recent single ‘Zombie’, with both performances now available via BBC Sounds and online.

‘Idols’ draws on strong Britpop influences, with Harrison previously highlighting the emotional energy he feels when listening to artists like Oasis, Primal Scream, Suede, and David Bowie. He explained that this new body of work was shaped by the kind of music that makes him feel unstoppable—a sound he wanted to replicate with a fresh perspective.

Describing the upcoming album as his most personal and ambitious yet, Harrison revealed that ‘Idols’ reflects a sense of rebirth. The first part centres on reclaiming one's identity and purpose, while part two delves into darker, more existential themes, exploring mortality and emotional vulnerability.

The rollout continues with intimate UK performances under the banner ‘Idols – Up Close And Personal’ next month, followed by headline tours across North America and Europe. Fans can also anticipate BludFest 2, set to take place in Milton Keynes on 21st June.
