Zendaya Finally Returns to The Met Gala After 5 Years

Hollywood luminary Zendaya recently chatted with the hosts of ‘Live with Kelly and Mark’ about her impending return to the Met Gala after a considerable hiatus. She expressed that the prospect of attending the Met Gala after five years feels quite daunting and also touched upon her collaborative rapport with stylist Law Roach.

The star of ‘Dune’ delved into her fashion inclinations during the interview. Having debuted at the Met Gala in 2019, Zendaya’s forthcoming appearance at the Met Gala 2024, scheduled for 6th May, promises to showcase her in all her resplendent glory. Reflecting on her Met Gala comeback, Zendaya remarked during her appearance on ‘Live with Kelly and Mark,’ “Heading up those steps is quite intimidating, and it’s been a good four or five years since I’ve been back. So, it feels like my first time in a while.”

Host Kelly Ripa humorously suggested that designers must engage in fierce competition to dress Zendaya, to which the actress quipped that interested parties should consult her stylist Law Roach for clarification. Furthermore, Zendaya disclosed that she and her stylist Law Roach have collaborated since she was merely 14 years old, emphasising their close professional bond.

“It’s enjoyable because I view fashion as a form of creativity,” she elaborated. “Even during press tours, it’s an extension of the creativity from the film… I like to create characters, as sometimes, working in this industry can feel a bit strange and uncomfortable. I’m naturally more introverted, so getting to inhabit these characters for a day through clothing is quite liberating.”

In the upcoming Met Gala, Zendaya will serve as a co-chair alongside Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny and Chris Hemsworth. According to a report from People, this will mark her first ascent of the Met steps since 2019. Zendaya’s inaugural appearance at the Met Gala in 2015 featured her adorned in a custom Fausto Puglisi ensemble inspired by the theme ‘China: Through the Looking Glass.’ She described the experience as “overwhelming but in the best possible way.”

In 2019, Zendaya’s presence at the Met Gala captivated audiences as she embodied the ‘Camp: Notes on Fashion’ theme with a striking blend of whimsy and haute couture. Her interpretation of Cinderella manifested through a luminous pale blue Tommy Hilfiger ballgown, left an indelible mark on the event.

Regarding this year’s Met Gala theme, it centres around ‘Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.’ The accompanying Costume Institute exhibition will feature an array of approximately 250 items, including notable pieces such as an 1877 Charles Frederick Worth silk satin ball gown, spanning over 400 years of fashion history.
