World of Warcraft: The War Within Season Two Turbo Boost Comes with a Catch

Blizzard is preparing to launch the 'World of Warcraft: The War Within' Season 2 Turbo Boost event on May 13, introducing a faster path to gear upgrades and a long-requested quality-of-life change—transferable Valorstones across characters in a Warband. However, players should be aware that this convenience comes at a cost: a 25% transfer fee.

The Turbo Boost event will run until the arrival of Season 3 with Patch 11.2. During this time, players can expect improved gear rewards from group content, extended Hero and Myth upgrade paths, and a new system called Puzzling Cartel Chips—similar in function to the Dinar system from previous expansions. One of the headline features of this update is the ability to send Valorstones between characters, making alt gearing more efficient than ever before.

But there’s a twist. Transferring Valorstones isn't free—Blizzard has implemented a 25% tax on any amount moved between characters. For example, if you want to send 100 Valorstones to an alt, you’ll need to use 125 in total to complete the transfer. Any extra sent to cover this cost is effectively lost, and there’s currently no safeguard to recover misdirected or oversent currency, which makes careful management essential.

Community Reacts to Valorstone Tax

The discovery of this penalty—originally found on the Public Test Realm—has left many players frustrated. Valorstones already occupy a controversial place in WoW’s gear upgrade system, and the added tax hasn't helped their reputation. While some are relieved that transfers are even possible, others feel Blizzard should have removed the system entirely or replaced it with a more streamlined approach, like relying solely on Crests.

Despite the backlash, the tax is unlikely to be a dealbreaker. Valorstones are fairly easy to obtain, and with the influx of content and rewards during the Turbo Boost period, players will have plenty of opportunities to earn more. For those levelling and gearing alts, the new transfer option—even with the 25% fee—should still prove beneficial.

It’s worth noting that because this feature originated on the PTR, there’s still a slim chance Blizzard could revise the transfer penalty before the event goes live. However, unless there’s significant pushback, the current implementation is likely to remain in place through the start of the event and into Season 3, expected later this summer.
