“Trollz” by 6ix9ine ft. Nicki Minaj Debuts at No. 1 on Charts

After the YouTube fiasco last week, snatching away the title of “the most watched hip hop video in 24 hours” from Nicki Minaj and 6ix9ine, their collaboration “Trollz” wins big. The track, which was released on the 12th of June, has debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. 

The weekly ranking, which reached us late last night, saw “Trollz” reigning supreme at No. 1, beating out DaBaby and Roddy Ricch’s track “Rockstar”. Lil Baby comes in at No. 3 with his track “The Bigger Picture”. 

“Trollz”, which is a familiar diss-track, rapped over a trap beat, sees Nicki Minaj and 6ix9ine taking a shot at their haters and “trolls”. The music video, which is a kaleidoscope of colours, has raked in 131 million views and counting. 

Nicki Minaj and 6ix9ine both addressed the big news on social media. And while they both took a moment to thank their fans and appreciate the support on “Trollz”, the rappers also called out the industry for its lack of support in promoting their music. 

6ix9ine, who is the Internet’s latest rant efficionado, started his explosive video by saying: “Listen n**ger, I can’t be stopped. You can’t blackball me. You better unfollow me because I’m going on a seven day rant.” He goes on to call out the industry saying, “You tried to blackball me on radio. Apple, Spotify didn’t give us no playlisting”. In what seems like an apt ending, the rapper exclaims, “We beat the industry”. 

In a relatively mellow follow-up to 6ix9ine’s grandiose claims, Nicki Minaj took to her Instagram to thank the fans. In the minute long video, she says: “Congratulations, Barbz. Ya’ll did this, with no playlisting, no radio. That’s just not happening in 2020. We just did the highest pure sales of the year, of every song released in 2020. You can’t buy that, that’s fan love.” 

And in what seems like a warning of things to come, Nicki Minaj ends the “Trolls” celebration on a suspenseful note, saying: “There’s a couple things I want to get off my chest. Certain things that have been going on in this industry for just way too long. You already know 6ix9ine going to be doing a lot, so be prepared for that.”

“Trollz” debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 marks a career first for 6ix9ine and a career second for Nicki Minaj. This is also the first No. 1 that Nicki Minaj celebrates as a rapper in a lead role.
