Your Next Zoom Call Will Be Scheduled With Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran has been awfully quiet lately. In the latter half of 2019, he did mention that he would be taking a break from the music scene and social media in general. But we have to admit that we are missing him. And as if our prayers were heard, Ed returned, making headlines for the wackiest reason ever,
Ed Sheeran surprised a class of young British school kids by joining their Zoom video lesson. Nope, not a joke. Here’s how it happened. So, Ed is friends with the songwriter, Timothy Spoerer, who teaches a class at South London’s Ecclesbourne Primary School. As they say, the rest is history.
But we know you want all the teeny-tiny details, so we’re going to give them to you anyway. So, Ed Sheeran went on to surprise the kids and even teach them how to play a tune or two
His Advice for the Kids
He spared a bit of time to tell them what his schooling was like. He even stressed on the “hard work and struggling” it took to make it big in the music industry. Then he lightened things up by admitting that he wasn’t very smart at school.
“I couldn’t do maths, science and English and I was told to be successful in life you had to do those things. I loved playing music, that’s what made me happiest. My dad always said to me, ‘If you want to be a musician work really hard at it,’ ” he told them. Which is a simple, yet sweet lesson to teach. To follow your passion and refuse to be squeezed into a box because everyone’s telling you “it’s the right thing to do” is possibly the most valuable lesson kids need to be taught right now.
Now, this might dampen your mood, but we have to tell you anyway. Ed Sheeran also confessed that he had no immediate plans to end his music hiatus.
“I need a year off not doing anything. Getting back to normal life,” he told the kids. Well, as long as we get a couple of gems like this from Ed, then we’re really not complaining.
