The Week in Music: News From July 6th to July 12th

A week in the music world, is a year in real life. And that’s despite the fact that we’re living in 2020. This week in music brought a whole lot of drama, record-breaking successes and new releases.
From Kanye West and his promise of Presidency to Charlie Puth speaking out about “hate” from the BTS ARMY, there’s a lot to get through. So, scroll on and take a look at what this week in music had to offer.

1. Kanye West shared a tweet on Twitter announcing his intent to run for President. If that wasn’t shocking enough, Elon Musk pledged his support to the rapper.
2. Irene and Seulgi from Red Velvet took the K-Pop world by storm with their debut. Their EP and single, titled “Monster“, had fans rejoicing.
3. Troye Sivan resurfaced on social media with an announcement of new music. He teased his upcoming release, ‘Easy’, with a short snippet of the track.
4. Eminem and Kid Cudi joined forces for a slick and mellow track called “The Adventures of Moon Man and Slim Shady“, sweeping the rap world off its feet.
5. Demi Lovato opened up about her struggles with addiction and her mental health during the quarantine. She has been doing a lot better and is on the road to recovery.
6. The release of “Blood”, the upcoming memoir by the Jonas Brothers has been postponed. The trio announced that the new release date will be October 20th, 2020.
7. Juice WRLD’s posthumous album released this week. The 21 track project, “Legends Never Die” features tracks with Halsey and Marshmello, too.
8. Sam Smith brought fans to tears with their live cover of Coldplay’s timeless classic, ‘Fix You’. This rendition features Smith’s signature vocals and choral elements.
9. Charlie Puth took to Twitter to address the “hate” he’s been receiving from the BTS ARMY for two years now. He said he “loves the guys” and never used them for clout.
10. BTS officially became the artists with the most #1s in iTunes history. Their song, ‘Black Swan’ surpassed Adele’s ‘Hello’, scoring No. 1 in 104 countries, and counting.
