Glen Powell is gearing up to turn up the heat in more ways than one with his next big-screen role. The rising Hollywood star has been cast as the lead in a new firefighter drama for Amazon MGM Studios, directed by Oscar-winner Ron Howard. The untitled movie marks another major career move for Glen Powell and a return to familiar territory for Howard, who famously directed the 1991 firefighter classic 'Backdraft'.
While plot specifics remain under wraps, the film is based on an original concept by screenwriter Christina Hodson. The story will follow a Texas firefighter, played by Powell, who confronts raging wildfires tearing across his home state. Alongside the natural threat, he also grapples with a complicated personal history involving a former childhood friend — now a fellow firefighter — setting the stage for an emotional and adrenaline-filled journey.

Ron Howard will helm the project from Hodson’s screenplay. The movie will be produced by Howard, Brian Grazer, and Jed Brody under the Imagine Entertainment banner, while Glen Powell and Dan Cohen will produce through their Barnstorm production company.
