The 2021 Global Citizen was kicked-off with BTS’ ‘Permission to Dance’ which was a feel-good performance.

The group took part in this year’s event which was held on 25th September. The year’s event aims to raise awareness and spark global change. Global Citizen featured countless artists performing across several continents this weekend.

Coldplay’s set featured another welcome appearance by BTS in New York City where a star-studded lineup took the stage in Central Park as part of the festivities.

BTS performed their hit songs Permission to Dance and Butter and welcomed masked back-up dancers to share the stage with them. The show, believed to be one of the biggest ever international charity events, was organized by Global Citizen which is a charity working to end extreme poverty by 2030.

“We collaborated with a band and we took their average age up about 15 years, but it’s been one of the most fun things we’ve ever done,” singer Chris Martin told the crowd. “This is a song we did with BTS. This is a song about love who you love, and only that.”

The band launched into new single “My Universe,” virtually joining forces with BTS, who were on a big screen behind them. Billie Eilish, Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello also performed some hits with Coldplay live on the stage. Billie also called for support on climate change policies.

At one point, even Martin turned around to look up in awe at BTS.

Coldplay and BTS dropped ‘My Universe’ on 24th September. The song is sung in both English and Korean. The song is the second single Coldplay has released ahead of the release of their upcoming studio album ‘Music of the Spheres.’
