BTS Beats Out Michael Jackson With This Stellar Record
BTS can’t seem to stop themselves. And one stop on this train of success is the prestigious Japanese music chart – Oricon.
According to news reports earlier in the day, BTS have officially leveled up with pop heavy weight, the late Michael Jackson, on the Oricon chart – a feat achieved after 36 years. The septet’s latest studio album, “Map of the Soul: 7” sits comfortably at No. 1 on Oricon’s mid-year album chart.
The only other international artist to land No. 1 on said chart is Michael Jackson, 36 years ago; he achieved the feat with his album “Thriller” in 1984. To add this impressive record, BTS have also been named the second best-selling artists in Japan, raking in 3.2 billion yen in sales.
News of the stellar achievement reaches them in perfect time, as BTS gear up for the release of their latest Japanese album, “Map of the Soul: Journey”. The lead single from the album, “Stay Gold”, is slated for release later today.
Earlier today, media reports also stated that the Samsung x BTS collaboration – the Samsung Galaxy S20 + 5G release sold in 57 minutes from the time of availability. To add to this, the group has been trending with the hashtag #BTSRecordMakers on Twitter with 50,000 tweets and counting.
