Cardi B & ‘WAP’: The Secret Behind One Special Cameo

After raking in some phenomenal streaming numbers and making Billboard chart history, the buzz around ‘WAP’ continues to unfold. In fact, Cardi B recently dished out a little secret that currently has fans world over in an absolute meltdown. The good kind of course.

In a recent interview, the rap star confessed that one more special artist was set to feature in the ‘WAP’ music video. And she goes by the name…Lizzo.

“I’m cool with Lizzo and everything. Like, we’ve been sending DMs to each other and all that. But she was on vacation and she wasn’t in town,” Cardi confessed.

“I was like, ‘Oh my gosh,’ because I had a whole vision about how I want to see Lizzo and everything. It was so important to me to include different women that are different races and come from different backgrounds, but are so powerful and influential,” she explained.

While fans might be sulking over the fact that they didn’t get a chance to see Lizzo in all her fiery glory, ‘WAP’ still featured some of the biggest women of the entertainment industry. From Normani, Rosalia and Rubi Rose to even Kylie Jenner – the music video celebrated some of the most superb acts of the industry.

Cardi also went on to discuss the elephant in the room – the explicitness seen in ‘WAP’. The rapper highlighted the fact that she was surprised and even a bit irked by the fact that the lyrics of this song faced so much scrutiny. She even pointed out that there are numerous other rap acts that have lyrics equally or even more raunchier than the ones seen in ‘WAP’.

Speaking of Jacki-O’s 2004 song ‘P—y (Real Good)”, Cardi confessed,  “I just grew up listening to those types [of songs] and y’all think this is super, super, super nasty? I don’t think so.”

While ‘WAP’ did see a barrage of mixed responses, there’s no denying that Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion have a whole load of talent. And they’ve been given the recognition they deserve for it. For the first time in Billboard Hot 100 history, a female hip hop collaboration scored the No. 1 spot. Not to mention that ‘WAP’ also scored the largest streaming numbers for a song in its debut week, raking in a whopping 93 million streams.

And so, ‘WAP’ continues to tread on a path of victory
