Following the release of ‘Fortnight’ the lead single and opener for Taylor Swift’s album ‘The Tortured Poets Department,’ Post Malone, her duet partner and leading man in the music video, took to social media recently with a heartfelt message for Swift.

“It’s once in a lifetime that someone like @taylorswift comes into this world,” Post, also a co-writer on ‘Fortnight,’ wrote alongside a photo of the two. “I am floored by your heart and your mind, and I am beyond honoured to have been asked to help you with your journey.”

“I love you so much,” he wrote. “Thank you Tay.”

The music video for ‘Fortnight’ dropped Friday night, serving as the first visual for Taylor Swift’s new 31-song album, ‘The Tortured Poets Department’. The video draws inspiration from the black and white ‘cinephile’ muse mentioned in the album track ‘loml’.

The black and white world of the video explodes with colour only when the two poet characters, played by Taylor Swift and Post Malone, unleash their creative energy through their typewriters.

Swift herself wrote and directed the video, with renowned cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto bringing it to life. This isn’t Prieto’s first time working with Swift. He previously served as Director of Photography for her music videos ‘Cardigan,’ ‘Willow’ and ‘The Man’. Notably, Prieto has extensive experience in film cinematography, with recent credits including ‘Barbie’ and ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’.

“Pretty much everything in it is a metaphor or a reference to one corner of the album or another,” Swift wrote of the ‘Fortnight’ video on Instagram, explaining that the artistic clip is representative of more than just the single. “For me, this video turned out to be the perfect visual representation of this record and the stories I tell in it.”

She added, “@postmalone blew me away on set as our tortured tragic hero and I’m so grateful to him for everything he put into this collaboration.”

‘Fortnight’ shattered Spotify records on Friday, becoming the most streamed song in a single day.  The momentum continued for Taylor Swift’s album, ‘The Tortured Poets Department,’ which became not only the most streamed album of 2024 on Spotify in a single day, but also the first album ever to surpass 300 million streams within 24 hours on the platform.

Unveiling the first single, ‘Fortnight,’ from her 11th studio album, ‘The Tortured Poets Department,’ which surprisingly turned out to be a double album upon release on 19th April, Taylor Swift previously stated, “I’ve been such a huge fan of Post because of the writer he is, his musical experimentation and those melodies he creates that just stick in your head forever. I got to witness that magic come to life firsthand when we worked together on Fortnight.”
