Rina Sawayama Shares Anthemic New Track ‘Hold The Girl’

The title track and third single from Rina Sawayama’s eagerly awaited second album, ‘Hold The Girl,’ have been released.

With the singles ‘This Hell’ and ‘Catch Me In The Air,’ the artist has already given fans a taste of the new album, which is the follow-up to 2020’s ‘SAWAYAMA.’

The latest single is an ambitious, complex pop tune with many facets that alludes to both the trauma and catharsis of moving on with one’s life. “Sometimes I just wanna run away, leave behind that old me, start again/ Then I’ll remember who I’m really made of/ And she’s been hide-and-seeking, waiting all alone,” she sings on the track.

Speaking about the songwriting process, Sawayama said: “‘Hold the Girl’ was the first song I wrote for the record at the end of 2020 – I had gone to therapy and had a revelation, so I decided to write this song… that was the start of it. I was crying before going into the studio to write about it.”

Due to “production concerns,” the release date of ‘Hold The Girl’ has been moved up to September 16 via Dirty Hit. Check out the new track below.

A US headline tour by Sawayama in November has also been confirmed. On 23rd November, Sawayama will put an end to her 2022 US tour with a concert at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles, California. Sawayama won Best Live Act at the BandLab NME Awards 2022.

“Can’t wait to perform the record for u,” she wrote while announcing the shows on social media on 26th July. “Which songs from the first record do u wanna hear ??”.

Sawayama gave a performance at the Latitude Festival over the weekend, where she also unexpectedly joined Maggie Rogers onstage for Phoebe Bridgers’ performance.

She will start a headline tour of the UK and Ireland in October, and a Cardiff performance has been added for 24th October due to “phenomenal demand.”
