The Weeknd Scores Another Chart Win; Sets A New Record

Just a couple days ago, The Weeknd dived under the spotlight once more with the release of his collaborative track with Juice WRLD, ‘Smile’. Now, the star has no reason to budge from this spot and here’s why: we’re all well aware that “After Hours” gave birth to a slew of brilliant tunes, all in search of a comfortable place on the charts. And now, one of these tunes has reached new heights from its position at the No.1 spot. And yes, we’re talking about ‘Blinding Lights’.

This tune has notched an unprecedented 21st week at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot R&B Songs chart. And by doing this, The Weeknd has set a new record. Previously, the bar was at 20 weeks, a feat enjoyed by  Drake’s “One Dance,” Bruno Mars’ “That’s What I Like” and The Weeknd’s own “Starboy”.

Now, coming in close with a 19 week run on the chart is “Blurred Lines,” by Robin Thicke featuring T.I. and Pharrell. And lining up next with 18 weeks under his belt is Khalid with “Talk”.

In addition to this win, “Blinding Lights” has also conquered the Billboard Hot 100 and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts for four weeks. In fact, this tune has even managed to rule the Pop Songs airplay chart for a good six weeks.

So, What Else Has The Weeknd Been Upto?

In other news, The Weeknd recently teased a snippet of a new song during a 3D Tik Tok event. Titled, “The Weeknd Experience,” this was an augmented reality, interactive livestream. After performing a brief set, the star played out one minute of a brand new tune. Featuring his gentle verses and a cocktail of interesting beats, it looks like the Weeknd is taking a step away from the more ambient production elements seen in ‘After Hours’.

There’s no official release date for this track as of yet, so for now, we can just celebrate all the chart wins ‘Blinding Lights’ has brought forth.
