Two of Hollywood's most attractive names are vying for the starring parts in the upcoming big-screen adaptation of 'Miami Vice.' According to reports, Austin Butler and Michael B. Jordan are in early negotiations to star in the upcoming Universal Pictures revival of the iconic crime-drama series, which is helmed by Joseph Kosinski, the director of 'Top Gun: Maverick.'
For a new age, the movie will reinvent Miami in the 1980s, complete with neon lights, fast vehicles, and undercover police. This contemporary revival is already creating a lot of excitement among fans of the original show, with production anticipated to start in 2026 and a theatrical premiere scheduled for 6th August, 2027.

Reviving an Iconic Franchise
Originally airing from 1984 to 1989, 'Miami Vice' became a cultural touchstone that shaped music, fashion, and the entire aesthetic of television in the 1980s. The show, which was created by Anthony Yerkovich and produced by Michael Mann, followed cops Sonny Crockett and Ricardo Tubbs as they busted organized crime and drug lords in the glamorous and perilous nightlife of Miami. That world will be revisited in the new movie with new vitality and artistic flair.
Joseph Kosinski, known for his sleek visual style in 'Top Gun: Maverick,' and 'Oblivion,' is set to direct, while the screenplay is being written by Dan Gilroy (Nightcrawler), and Eric Warren Singer (Top Gun: Maverick).

While examining contemporary themes of ambition, loyalty, and corruption, the reboot seeks to preserve the essence of the original.
Butler and Jordan to Bring New Depth to 'Crockett' and 'Tubbs'
If final negotiations go through, Austin Butler will take on the role of James "Sonny" Crockett—originally made famous by Don Johnson—while Michael B. Jordan will portray Ricardo "Rico" Tubbs, first played by Philip Michael Thomas. The pairing marks a fresh and dynamic duo for the iconic franchise.

Still riding high from his Oscar-nominated performance in 'Elvis,' and his nasty character in 'Dune: Part Two,' Butler is continuing to broaden his horizons with high-profile parts, such as the upcoming thriller 'Caught Stealing,' directed by Darren Aronofsky.
Jordan, on the other hand, is still one of Hollywood's most bankable actors thanks to the success of 'Sinners,' and 'Creed III.' Their collaboration promises to inject 'Miami Vice' with both star power and intensity.
What Fans Can Expect From The Reboot?
While plot specifics are still unknown, rumours indicate the movie will combine a modern crime-thriller vibe with the neon-soaked nostalgia of the original. Expect high-speed chases, stylish cinematography, and a soundtrack that nods to the 1980s while embracing modern beats.
According to reports, Universal Pictures intends to develop 'Miami Vice' into a possible long-term franchise in the event that the reboot is a success.
