Warner Bros. is officially turning 'The Land of Stories'—the hit fantasy book series by 'Glee' star Chris Colfer—into a movie for the big screen. The studio has acquired rights to adapt the beloved novels, with writer-director Phil Johnston attached to pen the screenplay.

This cinematic version will reimagine the magical world introduced in Colfer’s debut novel 'The Wishing Spell', first published in 2012. The story follows twin siblings, Alex and Conner Bailey, who are mourning the loss of their father when they find themselves transported into a mystical book. Within its pages, they encounter an enchanting realm where classic fairy tale characters come to life.

The adaptation will be shepherded by producer Emma Watts, who originally brought the project to Warner Bros. Chris Colfer will also serve as a producer, while Rob Weisbach joins as executive producer.

More About 'The Land of Stories'

'The Land of Stories' series spans seven main titles, along with multiple prequels and companion books. Since its launch, the franchise has built a global fan base, captivating readers with its imaginative world, emotional depth, and reimagined fairy tale lore.

Colfer, a Golden Globe-winning actor best known for playing Kurt Hummel on the hit series 'Glee', has also built a successful writing career with more than 20 published books to his name. He previously wrote and starred in the 2012 indie film 'Struck by Lightning', further showcasing his talents beyond acting.

This isn’t the first time a 'The Land of Stories' film has been in development. Back in 2017, Colfer was originally lined up to write and direct a film adaptation for 20th Century Fox and Shawn Levy’s 21 Laps. However, that version never made it past the planning stage.

The new iteration finds a fresh path under Warner Bros. with Johnston, whose credits include directing Netflix’s upcoming 'The Twits', co-directing 'Ralph Breaks the Internet', and writing for acclaimed animated features like 'Zootopia', 'Wreck-It Ralph', and 'Cedar Rapids'.

This exciting development sets the stage for 'The Land of Stories' to reach an even wider audience, blending fantasy adventure with heartfelt storytelling in its upcoming film adaptation.
