The first trailer for Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated epic 'The Odyssey' has officially landed — but only for audiences attending theatrical screenings of 'Jurassic World: Rebirth'. Staying true to his signature style, Nolan has chosen to premiere the teaser exclusively in cinemas, mirroring the theatrical-only release strategy he used for 'Oppenheimer' in 2023. Despite these efforts, the trailer has already surfaced online through unofficial uploads.
What’s surprising is how early this teaser has arrived, considering 'The Odyssey' won’t hit UK theatres until 17th July, 2026. The film, which remains in production, stars Matt Damon as the legendary Greek hero Odysseus. Given the early stage of development, the teaser is brief but atmospheric.

The trailer opens with haunting visuals of a vast, dark ocean, accompanied by a dramatic voiceover describing a world where the gods' laws have been shattered and a kingdom stands without a ruler. The voice reflects on a war believed to be unwinnable — one that Odysseus somehow emerged victorious from.
The scene then transitions to Tom Holland portraying Telemachus, the son of Odysseus, in a tense conversation with a mysterious character played by Jon Bernthal. Telemachus expresses a burning need to uncover the fate of his long-lost father. Bernthal’s character responds to a crowd with speculation about Odysseus’ fate — some believe he’s wealthy, others think he’s impoverished, missing, or even imprisoned.

The teaser closes with a dramatic shot of a man adrift on a piece of wreckage in the open sea, presumed to be Damon as Odysseus, signalling the mythic and emotional journey ahead.
What's More in 'The Odyssey'?
The film boasts a massive ensemble cast. In addition to Damon and Holland, the lineup includes Robert Pattinson, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, and Jon Bernthal. Recent casting announcements have added Elliot Page, Himesh Patel, and several others, as production kicked off in Morocco earlier this year.
Behind the camera, Nolan continues his decade-long collaboration with acclaimed cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema. Longtime producing partner Emma Thomas returns, and Ludwig Göransson is rumoured to be scoring the film following his celebrated work on Tenet and Oppenheimer.

Significantly, 'The Odyssey' is being filmed entirely with IMAX cameras, marking a historic first for a major mythological epic of this scale. With an estimated budget of $250 million, it stands as the most expensive project of Nolan’s career to date.
While details remain scarce, this early teaser has already set the stage for what could be Nolan’s most ambitious and visually stunning film yet.
