Christopher Nolan's 'The Odyssey' is preparing for a powerful theatrical introduction, and Universal Pictures is offering audiences an immersive early glimpse. A nearly six-minute extended prologue will debut exclusively in 70mm IMAX, giving fans their first in-depth look at Nolan's ambitious reimagining before the film's release on 17th July, 2026. The film is shot entirely on IMAX cameras, the preview is crafted to highlight the epic scale and visual precision that define Nolan's storytelling.

IMAX First A Format Built for Nolan's Vision

Nolan's unwavering commitment to IMAX continues with 'The Odyssey,' which was filmed completely with IMAX's high-resolution cameras. By choosing IMAX 70mm screens as the only platform for the extended prologue, Nolan reinforces his belief that certain stories deserve the biggest, richest, and most immersive format available.

Exclusive December Rollout Across Theatrical Screens

The December rollout ensures the preview becomes a true theatrical event. Beginning on 12th December, the six-minute extended prologue will play exclusively before IMAX 70mm screenings of 'Sinners' and 'One Battle After Another.' A week later, on 19th December, a shorter version of the preview will be attached to all screenings of 'Avatar: Fire and Ash,' expanding its reach across theatres.

At the same time, the full extended trailer will continue to screen only before IMAX showings of James Cameron's film, preserving the premium experience for IMAX audiences. This staggered strategy builds momentum while drawing cinephiles into Nolan's preferred viewing format.

Cast, Story & What Awaits Audiences

Universal has already begun teasing the film with first-look images featuring Matt Damon, while reports also confirm that Tom Holland plays a key role in the adaptation. 'The Odyssey' brings Homer's epic to life, following Odysseus, the King of Ithaca, as he faces supernatural trials, personal loss, and intense emotional conflict during his long journey home after the Trojan War.
