A follow-up is already in the works before viewers have even watched the latest 'Cliffhanger' version. Despite the fact that the reboot isn't yet available in theaters, producers are working quickly to prepare a sequel. Rocket Science and Thank You Pictures have arranged the follow-up, which is being prepared concurrently with the post-production stage of the original. The reboot, which stars Pierce Brosnan and Lily James and was directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, is presently being edited; no official release date has been set as of yet. This proactive planning demonstrates faith in the reboot's potential as well as a measured risk to get momentum right away.
New Cast, New Story — Stallone Exits Stage Left
The reboot takes a different approach from the 1993 classic. The tale now revolves around Pierce Brosnan as Ray Cooper, a seasoned mountaineer who owns a lavish chalet in the Dolomites with his daughter Sydney (played by Lily James), rather than Sylvester Stallone's Gabe Walker. When kidnappers attack during a family weekend, their tranquil mountain existence becomes dangerous, and James's character must face her climbing trauma in order to save them. Stallone is not involved; his absence marks a distinct departure from the original and highlights a new wave of action filmmaking.

With CAA Media Finance in charge of North American and Chinese markets and Rocket Science handling worldwide distribution, the relaunch aims to provide an IMAX cinematic experience. Even before viewers had a chance to see the film, discussions are already intensifying at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival market, highlighting the project's strategic positioning.
The creative team expects the reboot to be more than a one-off; it's the beginning of a new 'Cliffhanger' series aiming for the next top, as shown by the early planning of a sequel.
