Pop sensation Demi Lovato just proved she has one of the best senses of humour in Hollywood. The 33-year-old singer attracted attention this Halloween by dressing up as her own well-known online persona, "Poot Lovato," which became popular on social media almost ten years ago. What started as an awkward photoshopped image back in 2015 has now been fully embraced by Lovato herself—complete with the signature pale look, short hair, and eerie lighting that made the meme iconic. In addition to winning Halloween 2025 with this hilarious and nostalgic nod, Lovato proved that she is more self-assured, playful, and self-aware than ever before.

Revisiting the Meme: Who is "Poot Lovato" and How Did it Start?
A crudely Photoshopped and washed-out image of Demi Lovato had appeared on Tumblr in 2015, claiming to be of her "hidden twin sister," Poot Lovato, who had spent her entire life locked up in a basement. The meme took off as fans added their own lore and jokes, and over time the image became a running internet gag.
Lovato was originally offended by the picture and how it spread because she didn't realize it was Photoshopped and believed it to be authentic, according to sources. Later, in an April 2025 TikTok she lip-synced to an audio and captioned it "And I'm never letting her out," referencing the meme's basement narrative.

Halloween 2025: The costume and The Message
Lovato chose to embrace the joke and literally bring Poot out of the basement for Halloween 2025. According to a source, she shared a carousel of her outfits on Instagram, comparing them to the original meme image. Her look included pale makeup to mimic a flash-washed photo, a white T-shirt and side-swept short hair in homage to the original viral meme image.
In the TikTok video, she acted out Poot escaping a garage, and she even jumped on the "house tour" trend, showing bubble wrap and a water heater as Poot's essentials.

She captioned the post: "happy halloween and happy one week of intd!!! been so locked in this era thought i'd let pootvato out," referencing her new album 'It's Not That Deep,' released on 24th October, 2025.

What Does the Act Mean for Lovato?
By embracing the "Poot" meme, Lovato signalled a confident embrace of internet culture and her own past. She had mentioned in an interview earlier, that once she realised the photo was edited, she found it "really funny to look back on." Her pop-comeback era coincides with this Halloween turn; she has talked about owning every aspect of herself and her story, and her 2025 track 'Fast' marked a return to the dance-pop genre.

The Poot costume is more than just a gimmick—it's a statement of self-acceptance, and a way of reclaiming the narrative around her image and fandom. In short, Demi Lovato didn't just dress up for Halloween—she rewrote a part of her internet history and reminded everyone she owns the joke now.
