She said all the stress left her body as she realised the movie captured the heart of the book and that readers would love it just as much as she does. That feeling, she shared, was everything she could have hoped for.
Emily Henry also praised director Brett Haley, calling him wonderful to work with and saying he truly understood what fans cherish about Alex and Poppy's love story. She noted that he recognised how passionate and loyal the book's audience is and kept them in mind throughout the entire process.
Emily Henry is Happy to be Included in the Filmmaking Journey
The author added that she felt incredibly fortunate to be included in the filmmaking journey. While she wasn't required to be involved, Haley made sure her perspective was heard so that readers would always have someone representing them during key creative decisions.

When it came to casting, Henry said she couldn't imagine anyone else playing Alex and Poppy. After watching Tom Blyth and Emily Bader's chemistry read, she immediately knew they were the right choice. Their dynamic felt true to the characters, striking the perfect balance between playful teasing and genuine affection.
She explained that Bader brings a warmth and brightness to Poppy that allows her to joke with Alex while still showing deep care, while Blyth adds subtle reactions and a knowing smirk that keeps Alex from seeming annoyed. Together, their connection feels natural, loving, and fun to watch.
'People We Meet on Vacation' premieres on Netflix on 9th January.
