The 2025 Emmy nominations have officially been announced, and this year’s list is packed with both expected wins and shocking omissions.

As anticipated, 'The White Lotus' and 'Severance' continued their awards season streaks by securing the most nominations. Fresh titles like 'The Studio', 'The Pitt', and 'Nobody Wants This' also made a strong first impression with Emmy voters following the recent announcement.

Apple TV+’s 'The Studio' grabbed attention with standout performances by Kathryn Hahn, Ike Barinholtz, Seth Rogen, and Chase Sui Wonders—earning praise and several big award nods.

Surprising 2025 Emmy Nominations

One of the most talked-about moments came with Meghann Fahy landing her first-ever nomination for Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her role in 'Sirens', signalling a career milestone. Other standout nominations included Colman Domingo, recognised for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for 'The Four Seasons', and Uzo Aduba, earning praise in the Lead Actress in a Comedy Series category for 'The Residence'.

Sharon Horgan also secured a nomination for 'Bad Sisters, and Robby Hoffman received recognition in the Guest Actress in a Comedy Series category for 'Hacks'. Veteran filmmaker Ron Howard was honoured with a nomination for Guest Actor in a Comedy Series thanks to his role in 'The Studio'.

Newcomer 'Paradise' shocked everyone with a surprise nomination for Outstanding Drama Series — a welcome twist in the lineup.

Notable 2025 Emmy Snubs

Despite these wins, the nomination list wasn't without its notable snubs. Selena Gomez and Steve Martin were left out of 'Only Murders in the Building', even as fan support and previous critical acclaim suggested otherwise. The show also failed to secure nods for Meryl Streep and Melissa McCarthy, despite their standout performances.

Other high-profile omissions included 'House of the Dragon' and 'Squid Game', two powerhouse shows that failed to earn major nominations this year. Fans of 'The Handmaid’s Tale' were disappointed to see Elisabeth Moss excluded from the nominations for the show's final season. Similarly, Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford were overlooked for their roles in '1923', which was shut out entirely despite high praise.

More surprises came as Natasha Lyonne received no recognition for 'Poker Face', and Patrick Schwarzenegger was missing from 'The White Lotus' nominations. Allison Janney was also left out for her performance in 'The Diplomat'.

While 'Hacks' earned praise for stars Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder, Megan Stalter and Paul W. Downs didn’t get the same love. SNL’s Bowen Yang scored a nod for Supporting Actor, but Kenan Thompson and Heidi Gardner were left out. Additionally, the iconic sketch show didn't secure any guest actor nominations this year—an unusual shift from previous seasons.

Other unexpected absences included Jack Lowden ('Slow Horses'), Dichen Lachman ('Severance'), John Mulaney’s Everybody's Live', and Renée Zellweger for 'Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy', a performance many critics assumed was award-season material.

Meanwhile, 'Hacks' continued its strong run with Jean Smart claiming her third Emmy win and the series taking home the Outstanding Comedy Series prize.

The 77th Emmy Awards will air live on ABC in September.
