Netflix brought a cinematic jolt to Hollywood over Halloween weekend to celebrate the upcoming release of Guillermo del Toro's highly anticipated 'Frankenstein.' The streamer turned the city into a gothic playground, lighting up the skies with drones, simulated lightning, and immersive fan events to mark the return of Mary Shelley's iconic monster.
'Frankenstein' Celebration
The festivities culminated in a sold-out IMAX screening of 'Frankenstein' at the TCL Chinese Theatre, where filmmaker Jason Reitman joined del Toro for a post-screening discussion. The new adaptation features a powerhouse cast, including Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi, Mia Goth, and Christoph Waltz. The film is currently playing in select theatres before its global Netflix debut on 7th November.
The promotional celebration began at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery, where 1,500 drones illuminated the sky in a spectacular display that formed the film's title amid a storm-like atmosphere. The following evening, six synchronised drone shows created a dramatic lightning effect above landmarks like the Hotel Roosevelt and Capitol Records, blending cinematic spectacle with cutting-edge technology.
Fans embraced the Halloween spirit by attending the Chinese Theatre screening dressed as their favourite Guillermo del Toro characters. Attendees were treated to limited-edition posters and exclusive Frankenstein-themed popcorn buckets as part of the immersive experience.

The campaign extended beyond Los Angeles, with New York City also joining the celebration. Lightning projections and displays appeared at the Tiffany & Co. flagship on Fifth Avenue, reimagining key moments from del Toro's upcoming adaptation in the store’s iconic windows.
On social media, the film's official Instagram teased the nationwide excitement by sharing clips from the drone spectacle with captions hinting that "a storm is brewing," building anticipation ahead of the film's release.
'Frankenstein' is Guillermo del Toro's Milestone Project
Del Toro first spoke about 'Frankenstein' earlier this year at the Toronto International Film Festival, where he reflected on how the project represents the culmination of more than 15 years of creative development. He described the film as a deeply personal milestone that closes an important chapter in his filmmaking journey.
Early reviews have already hailed 'Frankenstein' as one of del Toro's most ambitious works. Critics have praised it for its visual splendour, emotional resonance, and artistic scale, calling it one of the filmmaker's finest achievements to date.
