With a funny reference to his Texan heritage as the deal-breaker, Glen Powell firmly put an end to rumours that he would play James Bond in place of Daniel Craig. The 36-year-old actor, who is now promoting his Hulu comedy 'Chad Powers', made it apparent in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter that he was not contending for the part. I'm Texan. "I can play Jimmy Bond, but I shouldn't be playing James Bond," he added with a lighthearted chuckle, adding that a Texan shouldn't play James Bond. His message was clear: a "authentic Brit" wearing a tuxedo is what the iconic character deserves.

A Playful Rejection with Respect for Bond’s Legacy
Powell's statements conveyed a greater regard for the franchise's legacy even though his tone remained humorous. All of the actors who have played Bond since his first appearance in a motion picture, including Roger Moore, Sean Connery, and, in keeping with the current trend, Daniel Craig, are British or Irish. Powell's denial is more than just a display of humorous bluster; it is a sincere belief that maintaining the character's national identity is important to both the film's legacy and its audience.
Franchise in Transition, Casting Rumours Abound
Powell's remarks coincide with rising interest in the Bond franchise's future. With screenwriter Steven Knight and filmmaker Denis Villeneuve already signed on to direct the next Bond film, Amazon MGM Studios claimed creative control in early 2025.
Powell's direct rejection provides clarity amid the casting speculations, which range from Aaron Taylor-Johnson to Tom Holland: he is not in the running and feels that the role should remain within the purview of British acting talent.
What's Upcoming for Powell In The Months Ahead?
Glen Powell's next projects are busy and varied, showcasing his expanding acting repertoire. He plays a desperate parent who is coerced into a dangerous game show in Edgar Wright's high-octane dystopian thriller 'The Running Man', which is scheduled for release in November 2025.
Powell, on the other hand, co-created and stars in the new comedy series 'Chad Powers' on Hulu, which premieres on 30th September. Alongside Jenna Ortega and Emma Mackey, he is also filming a mystery J.J. Abrams fantasy project that combines nostalgia for the 1980s with narrative that bends reality, which is reported to be called 'Ghostwriter.'

Powell also stars in the dark comedic thriller 'Huntington', which is presently in post-production, and is said to be involved with Barry Jenkins' sci-fi film 'The Natural Order.' Thus, Powell is solidifying his status as one of Hollywood's most adaptable actors with this variety of roles and genres.
