Glenn Close delivered an unexpectedly vibrant and playful presence on the set of 'Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery,' according to writer and director Rian Johnson. Despite her legendary status and eight Academy Award nominations, Johnson admitted he initially felt some nerves about working with such an acclaimed performer. However, those concerns disappeared as soon as Close arrived on set with a level of enthusiasm more common in first-time actors than Hollywood royalty.

Rian Johnson Describes Glenn Close's Energy

Rian Johnson described her attitude as deeply passionate and completely free of ego. Rather than behaving like a distant industry veteran, she approached each day with excitement, curiosity, and full commitment to the process. Her energy, he noted, inspired the cast and crew throughout production.

In the third instalment of the popular 'Knives Out' franchise, Glenn Close portrays Martha Delacroix, the devoted church manager at Our Lady of Perpetual Fortitude in upstate New York. Her character is closely aligned with the film's murder victim, Monsignor Jefferson Wicks, played by Josh Brolin, whose shocking death during an Easter service becomes the central mystery.

The investigation puts attention on Reverend Jed Duplenticy, portrayed by Josh O'Connor, a quiet and usually composed figure who is caught on video threatening Wicks shortly before the murder. As suspicion grows, Daniel Craig's iconic detective Benoit Blanc once again steps in to unravel the complicated web of secrets.

Glenn Close's Dedication to Her Craft

Johnson also recalled how Close's dedication went far beyond her own scenes. Even after wrapping early on one occasion, she remained on set simply to observe how her fellow actors approached their performances. Dressed in her regular clothes and standing quietly in a corner, she wanted to study the craft at work rather than leave for the day, showcasing her continuing passion for the art of filmmaking.

Close later shared that she bonded closely with the film's large ensemble cast. Downtime on set often included casual gatherings with tea, coffee, and snacks. She spent time playing backgammon with fellow actors, including Mila Kunis and Josh O'Connor, while others, like Andrew Scott, rested between scenes, and Jeremy Renner used a special chair while recovering from his accident. The atmosphere, she noted, was filled with laughter and warmth, making the experience feel like a collaborative family rather than just another production.

'Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery' continues the franchise's signature mix of sharp storytelling and star-studded performances. The film is currently in theatres and will also be available for streaming on Netflix starting 12th December.
