The actor recently shared an idea for the sequel during a stop on his 'A Nostalgic Night with Macaulay Culkin' tour—Kevin, who is now an adult father, is barred from his own home, but the surprise is that his son is the one who sets the traps. Culkin admitted the idea would have to be carefully handled, but he's open to it if the script and timing are right.

From Child Star to Holiday Legend

When 'Home Alone' debuted in theaters in 1990, it immediately became a smash, making its young star, Macaulay Culkin, one of the biggest child actors of his generation. 'Home Alone 2: Lost in New York,' the franchise's 1992 follow-up, further solidified its status in popular culture. In his version, Kevin McCallister is now an adult, possibly a widower or divorcee, balancing employment and family duties while raising a child. Feeling neglected, the child retaliates by locking Kevin out of the house, turning the home into a booby-trapped fortress. In this twist, it's Kevin himself who must navigate the traps—not intruders.

According to Culkin, the traps and the locked-out house would serve as a metaphor for a tense father-son bond, giving Kevin the opportunity to "get let back into his son's heart." He stressed on the fact that although he wouldn't be "totally allergic" in playing the part again, the sequel would need to be handled carefully and sensitively in order to preserve the essence of the original.
