'Gremlins' Franchise Rebooted with 2027 Sequel After 40-Year Hiatus

More than four decades after the mischievous Mogwai first captured hearts—and wreaked havoc—in the 1984 classic 'Gremlins,' the franchise is officially returning to theatres.

Warner Bros. confirmed during its recent earnings call that 'Gremlins 3' is in the works and will hit theatres on 19th November 2027, marking the long-awaited follow-up to 1990's 'Gremlins 2: The New Batch.'

Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein will direct the upcoming sequel, the duo behind the recent horror success 'Final Destination: Bloodlines.' They'll collaborate with original 'Gremlins' screenwriter Chris Columbus, who is returning to co-produce alongside Steven Spielberg, the legendary filmmaker who executive-produced the first two films. Spielberg will also take on directing duties for this new instalment, reuniting with Columbus more than 40 years after the franchise first began.

Warner Bros. president of development and production Jesse Ehrman described 'Gremlins' as one of the studio's most iconic titles, emphasising that the new film aims to deliver the same magic, chaos, and emotional core that made the original a cultural phenomenon. The studio hopes to reignite nostalgia among longtime fans while introducing the quirky creatures to a new generation of moviegoers.

The original film followed small-town teenager Billy Peltzer, played by Zach Galligan, whose adorable new pet Gizmo came with one major warning: never feed it after midnight.
