Del Toro's Worlds, Reimagined and Restored
The four thematic blocks in which Está Vivo will screen films will represent the creative and emotional trajectories of Del Toro's career. 'In the Mood for Love' begins with a powerful triple bill that examines beauty, blood, and emotional resonance: 'Crimson Peak,' 'The Shape of Water,' and a new director-supervised adaptation of 'Nightmare Alley: Vision in Darkness and Light.' Then, From Sketch to Screen, which features 'Hellboy,' 'Hellboy II: The Golden Army,' and 'Blade II,' exhibits his comic book-inspired artistic flare.
The Mimic director's cut, a 4K restoration of 'The Devil's Backbone,' and the theatrical debut of 'Cronos' in 4K are among the significant restorations on display in the third block, The Early Years, which sheds light on the origins of his distinctive gothic aesthetic. Ultimately, The Revolution ends with a unique homage to 'Pan's Labyrinth,' a movie that solidified Del Toro's reputation as a visionary director.

Los Feliz 3 will also host screenings of Guillermo Del Toro's 'Pinocchio' and 'Pacific Rim,' extending the retrospective to feature his contemporary action and animation films. The maestro himself will be present, sharing personal stories and participating in post-screening conversations throughout the four programming blocks that have been carefully chosen.
Looking Ahead—and When to Watch?
This expansive retrospective arrives just as anticipation builds for del Toro's next cinematic undertaking: 'Frankenstein,' due for release later this year. The retrospective serves as an evocative precursor to his adaptation of Mary Shelley's classic in addition to reflecting on the issues that have influenced his films—monsters, humanity, and creativity.
Tickets will be available on the official 'Beyond Fest' platforms and the American Cinematheque website starting at 12:00 p.m. PST on Thursday, 4th September. Está Vivo aims to be a collective celebration of the most captivating storyteller in cinema, regardless of whether you've been a lifelong fan or are just now becoming familiar with his worlds.
