Here’s Why Kesha Went Separate Ways With Her Record Label and Management

American singer and songwriter Kesha has officially cut ties with her record label Kemosabe, RCA and her long-standing management company Vector Management. This move has been a long time coming, as Kesha has been embroiled in legal battles to break free from her label.

Back in 2005, Kesha signed with Dr. Luke’s recording label, Kemosabe, and over the years, she released five full-length albums and three EPs before finally making her exit last week.

The ‘Die Young’ singer’s desire to leave Dr Luke’s label dates back to 2014 when she accused him of s*xual misconduct with her in 2005, when she initially signed with his label at the age of 18. Dr Luke consistently denied these claims and countered with a defamation lawsuit against Kesha and her mother, Rosemary Patricia Sebert.

The Lawsuit Between Kesha and Dr Luke

The legal dispute traces back to 2014 when Kesha filed a civil suit against Lukasz Sebastian Gottawald, Dr Luke’s real name. Kesha later admitted she couldn’t fully recall the events of that night but accused Dr Luke of causing emotional distress and engaging in misogynistic conduct.

In response, Dr. Luke filed a countersuit, claiming defamation against Kesha and her mother, alleging they concocted stories to break her contract with his label. Despite the legal turmoil, Kesha stayed with Kemosabe until recently parting ways, as reported by various sources. The duo eventually settled their disputes outside the court in June this year.

Regarding the decade-long legal battle, Dr. Luke expressed his well-wishes for Kesha, saying, “Only God knows what happened that night. As I always said, I cannot recount everything that happened. I am looking forward to closing the door on this chapter of my life and beginning a new one. I wish nothing but peace to all parties involved.” Kesha, in turn, wished peace to everyone involved.

Dr. Luke responded to Kesha’s statement by asserting, “While I appreciate Kesha again acknowledging that she cannot recount what happened that night in 2005, I am absolutely certain that nothing happened. I would never do that to anyone. For the sake of my family, I have vigorously fought to clear my name for nearly 10 years. It is time for me to put this difficult matter behind me and move on with my life. I wish Kesha well.”

Unfortunately, no additional details about their out-of-court settlement were disclosed.
