'Scream 7' is giving a heartfelt and seriously cool nod to Rose McGowan's original character—and longtime fans are going to love the way it honours her legacy.

The latest chapter of the horror franchise, which hits theatres on 27th February, brings back Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott. This time, fans also meet Sidney's teenage daughter, Tatum, played by '1883' actress Isabel May.

Longtime fans will recognise that name right away. Tatum was the name of McGowan's character in the 1996 film 'Scream.' She played Sidney's loyal best friend and became part of one of the most unforgettable death scenes in horror history.

Rose McGowan's Character Tatum

In the original film, Tatum, played by Rose McGowan, is attacked by Ghostface during a house party. She heads into the garage to grab drinks, only to be ambushed by the masked killer. Trying to escape through a small pet door in the garage, she gets stuck. Ghostface then switches on the garage door, lifting her off the ground and killing her in a shocking moment that fans still talk about today.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight from the set of 'Scream 7,' Campbell shared how special the tribute feels to her. She said Rose delivered a wonderful performance in the first movie and that the character remains deeply loved and missed by fans. Naming Sidney's daughter Tatum feels right, she explained, and fits naturally with Sidney's story. She added that it is a lovely idea.

'Scream 7' Synopsis

In the new film, Sidney's daughter becomes Ghostface's latest target. The official synopsis reveals that when a new killer appears in the quiet town where Sidney has built a new life, her worst fears come true as her daughter is threatened. Determined to protect her family, Sidney must confront the horrors of her past once again to stop the bloodshed.

Several familiar faces are also returning. Matthew Lillard, David Arquette and Courteney Cox are back in their iconic roles. Lillard recently said he is excited for fans to see the movie and believes it will live up to expectations, joking that at least it will not ruin the franchise.

Original 'Scream' writer Kevin Williamson returns as director and co-writer, continuing the legacy after the death of longtime director Wes Craven in 2015. Guy Busick also co-wrote the film, building on his work from the 2022 reboot and 'Scream VI.'
