Prepare to return to the beach because 'Baywatch' is making a big splashy return. For the 2026–2027 TV season, Fox has formally ordered 12 episodes of its relaunch straight to series. The show, which is being remade with the original creators on board, new cast members, and all the beloved summer drama elements—slow-motion beach runs, high-stakes ocean rescues, tangled romances, and, of course, the iconic red swimsuits—is being produced in collaboration with Fremantle.

What We Know: Format, Creative Team & Return to the Shoreline
Officially, Fox Entertainment and Fremantle are working on the reboot. Burn Notice star Matt Nix will be the executive producer and showrunner. The original 'Baywatch' creators, Doug Schwartz, Greg Bonann, and Michael Berk, as well as producer Dante Di Loreto, are also making a comeback. The show will premiere during the 2026–2027 television season after receiving an order for 12 episodes.

Although a precise launch date has not yet been announced, Fox is considering filming in Australia in order to take advantage of tax incentives, although the Southern California beach scene will remain. The same heart-pounding rescues, complex chemistry, interpersonal turmoil, and seaside heroism that made the original popular are promised to return, but with modern gimmicks, conflicts, and difficulties.
Then vs What's Ahead
With almost 250 episodes, the first season of 'Baywatch' debuted in 1989 and ran for 11 seasons until 2001. The show was then renamed 'Baywatch: Hawaii' for its final two seasons after production relocated from California to Hawaii. A reunion TV movie was also aired on Fox in 2003. The cast included David Hasselhoff as Mitch Buchannon, Pamela Anderson as C.J. Parker, plus stars of the day like Carmen Electra, Jason Momoa, Yasmine Bleeth, among others.
At its peak, the show reportedly drew over a billion people per week and eventually aired in more than 200 countries, becoming a worldwide cultural phenomenon.

Although no cast members have been announced yet, the new edition will build on that history. In order to appeal to today's audiences, the tale will try to replicate the original's blend of romance and rescues, as well as modern conflicts that are social, environmental, and possibly tech-driven.
Slow-motion runs, ocean danger, heartache, and the conflict between personal life and duty are all making a comeback alongside the red swimsuits. Instead of a remake, it's a reboot.
