Jacob Elordi has revealed that the physical strain he endured for a recent TV project unexpectedly prepared him for his dark and demanding role in 'Frankenstein.'
The 28-year-old actor, known for 'Euphoria' and 'Saltburn', shared in a new interview with the Los Angeles Times that his drastic weight loss during the filming of Prime Video's 'The Narrow Road to the Deep North' helped him embody the tortured emotions of the iconic Creature in Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming adaptation of 'Frankenstein'.
Jacob Elordi Shares Experience on 'Frankenstein' Transformation
After replacing Andrew Garfield, who exited the project in late 2023, Jacob Elordi had only a short time to prepare for the intense transformation. He explained that the physical exhaustion and mental turmoil he experienced during the previous shoot became a strange advantage. The late-night pain, confusion, and emotional distress he went through made it easier for him to tap into the suffering and loneliness at the core of Frankenstein's monster.

The actor stars opposite Oscar Isaac, who plays Victor Frankenstein, with a stellar supporting cast including Mia Goth, Felix Kammerer, Lars Mikkelsen, David Bradley, Charles Dance, and Christoph Waltz.
Why Jacob Elordi Took Frankenstein’s Monster Role?
Although Jacob Elordi joined the film at a later stage, he believed the role of the Creature was destined for him. His desire to take on the part was partly sparked by an old online comment mocking his early acting work—someone once said he was so stiff that he could only play Frankenstein's monster. Rather than taking offence, Elordi saw the remark as a strange foreshadowing of what was to come.
Years later, while working on Sofia Coppola's 'Priscilla,' Jacob Elordi learned that the film's hair and makeup team would next be joining del Toro's 'Frankenstein.' He described feeling a deep, almost instinctive pull toward the project, convinced that the role was meant to be his.

Jacob Elordi has said that portraying the Creature felt like a personal and professional turning point—something he was compelled to do on a deeper level.
Guillermo del Toro's 'Frankenstein' opens in theatres on 17th October and will be available for streaming on Netflix starting on 7th November 2025.
