Jennifer Grey is officially stepping back into one of her most iconic roles.

Lionsgate confirmed that Jennifer Grey will return as Frances "Baby" Houseman in a new 'Dirty Dancing' sequel. The project will be led by producers Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson, known for their work on 'The Hunger Games' and 'Crazy Rich Asians'.

The sequel is being written by 'Dying for S*x' screenwriter Kim Rosenstock, with filming expected to begin later this year.

Jennifer Grey on 'Dirty Dancing' Character

Grey, now 65, shared that the character of Baby has always held a special place in her heart, just as it has for generations of fans since the original film was released in 1987. She explained that she has often wondered what Baby's life might look like years later, but wanted to wait until the right creative team came together to honour the legacy of the beloved movie. With that team now in place, she says the long wait is finally coming to an end.

Producer Nina Jacobson described 'Dirty Dancing' as a rare film that remains just as emotional, exciting, and rebellious today as it was when it first premiered. She added that working with Jennifer Grey and Lionsgate on the sequel feels like a true privilege and likened the experience to returning to Kellerman's resort for one more unforgettable dance.

Jennifer Grey will also serve as an executive producer on the film. Discussions about a sequel have been ongoing for years, and the project was first announced back in 2020.

At the time, Grey made it clear that the new film would not try to recreate the magic she shared with Patrick Swayze, who passed away in 2009. She emphasised that no one can replace him and that the goal is not to repeat what was special before, but to create something new and meaningful in its own way.
