Jennifer Lawrence's path to stardom began in a surprisingly low-key and unexpected way.

While chatting with Leonardo DiCaprio on Variety's 'Actors on Actors,' Lawrence shared that one of her very first jobs was a promotional spot for MTV's reality show 'My Super Sweet 16.' In the ad, she played a made-up wealthy teenager with an extravagant birthday, complete with being carried on a chaise lounge before being dropped for dramatic effect. She explained that she was not actually featured on the show itself, since she couldn't afford a real Super Sweet 16 party and was only acting in a promo.

Jennifer Lawrence on Young Acting Career

Lawrence also talked about how young she was when she started acting. She moved to New York at 14 and soon landed a lead role on 'The Bill Engvall Show.' Just a couple of years later, her career took a major turn with her breakout performance in 'Winter's Bone' in 2010.

DiCaprio related to her early experiences, noting that he also began acting young, starting at 12. Before his big break in 'This Boy's Life,' he appeared on 'Growing Pains' and even did commercials, including one where he played a slick-haired gangster in a Matchbox car ad.

Both actors eventually moved on to much larger projects. For Lawrence, global fame followed with 'The Hunger Games.' Still, she credits director David O. Russell with truly shaping her as an actor. Working with him on 'Silver Linings Playbook' and 'American Hustle' helped her grow, even though his directing style was famously intense.

Jennifer Lawrence acknowledged that Russell could be tough and very blunt, but she said his approach worked for her. Having grown up playing sports, she viewed him more like a strict coach than someone being aggressive. His direct feedback made the work feel alive, especially when she was only 21 during 'Silver Linings Playbook.' She also said she dislikes being treated delicately on set and prefers honesty, even when it's harsh.

Jennifer Lawrence's Unusual Habit

Jennifer Lawrence also admitted to having an acting habit that she knows isn't ideal. Lawrence tends to completely switch off at the end of each day and not think about her scenes until the next morning. While this helps her maintain balance in her personal life, it often leads to stressful moments just before filming.

One example she shared involved a difficult scene with Robert De Niro that required her to shout a long list of sports statistics. She didn't realise the challenge of the scene until the day it was shot and panicked because she didn't want to waste De Niro's time. Looking back, she considers it a lesson learned the hard way.

From a fictional rich girl in an MTV promo to one of Hollywood's biggest stars, Lawrence's journey proves that even the most unexpected beginnings can lead to extraordinary careers.
