Jodie Foster is reminding everyone—especially AI—who starred in the original 'Freaky Friday.'
The Hollywood veteran, known for classics like 'Taxi Driver' and 'The Silence of the Lambs,' revealed she was surprised that ChatGPT doesn't recognise her role as Annabel in the 1976 original film. In fact, the AI seems unaware that the movie even exists.
Foster explained that if you ask ChatGPT or similar platforms about 'Freaky Friday', they list the 2003 remake with Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis as the "original," completely omitting her 1976 performance.

First Jodie Foster's 'Freaky Friday' Movie
The first 'Freaky Friday' movie, based on Mary Rodgers' 1972 children's book, tells the story of young Annabel Andrews, who swaps bodies with her mother, Ellen. Through the mix-up, Annabel learns what responsibility adulthood truly entails, gaining a new appreciation for her own life as a kid.
Released in 1976, Jodie Foster starred as Annabel alongside Barbara Harris as Ellen. The film was a success, earning over $25 million on a $5 million budget (roughly $145 million adjusted for inflation). Despite this, Jodie Foster joked that AI has "no recollection of the '70s."

Nearly three decades later, Mark Waters directed the Disney remake with Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis, reimagining Foster and Harris' roles for a new generation. When the 2023 sequel, 'Freakier Friday,' was in production, director Nisha Ganatra said she tried to get Foster to make a cameo but was unsuccessful, and the reason remains unknown.
Foster's playful critique serves as a reminder that sometimes, technology still can't compete with real Hollywood history.
