In a candid interview, British actor Jonathan Bailey, who was recently awarded PEOPLE's 2025 Sexiest Man Alive, shared his thoughts on fatherhood, calling it "such a privilege." Speaking to Esquire UK, Bailey reflected on the idea of having children someday, acknowledging both the responsibility and the joy that parenthood can bring, while also emphasizing that it's not an immediate priority for him. 

Bailey, who is well-known for his parts in 'Bridgerton' and the hit musical 'Wicked,' manages to strike a balance between his successful career and introspection, providing fans with an insight into his genuine and authentic outlook on life.

At 37, British actor Jonathan Bailey finds himself in the spotlight for more than just his acting chops. He became the first openly gay man to be named the Sexiest Man Alive when PEOPLE magazine named him the winner in the first week of November. On the talk show that announced the accolade, he joked about how surreal the moment felt: "It's a huge honour…it's completely absurd," he told host Jimmy Fallon.  

The honor was bestowed at a pivotal moment: Bailey, who most recently played Prince Fiyero in the big-screen 'Wicked' adaption, will return to the role in the next sequel, 'Wicked: For Good,' which is scheduled for release on 21st November, 2025. As a result of his increased prominence, Bailey is also publicly considering his future plans, which includes his idea of becoming a father.

"There's obviously loads of kids that could really benefit from love and support," he said, adding: "I have the absolute privilege of being a gay man—there's no biological clock. It's such a privilege, isn't it, to even be able to have a kid? So, I'm aware of it as an idea, as a concept, but it doesn't feel very loud in my head at the moment."

He clarified that while fatherhood is something he considers, it is not an urgent necessity due to his present schedule and way of life. He added that, he's also been preparing himself, by reading books on adoption and acknowledging that if and when the time is right, parenting might look non‑traditional: "I might co‑parent with a woman, but I'm thinking it will be with a man."

His candidness about his path—juggling his identity, job, and personal goals—has touched many people and garnered him recognition for his sincerity and openness.
