Julia Garner is stepping further into the Madonna spotlight with a striking new photoshoot that has reignited excitement around the long-rumoured biopic.

The 'Weapons' star, 31, posed for CR Fashion Book in looks reminiscent of Madonna’s most iconic 1980s moments. Styled by Bobby Eliot with makeup by Misha Shahzada, Garner’s blonde curls and retro glam immediately drew comparisons to the pop icon's 'True Blue' album cover. One standout shot featured her in a pink Gucci dress against a vivid red backdrop, evoking Marilyn Monroe’s legendary 'Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend' performance—an image Madonna herself famously recreated in the 'Material Girl' music video.

Julia Garner And Whirlwind of Projects

Although Julia Garner did not directly reference the Madonna biopic during her CR Fashion Book interview, she reflected on the whirlwind year that has seen her front and centre in major projects. In 2024 alone, she starred as the Silver Surfer in Marvel's 'Fantastic Four: First Steps,' delivered a gripping performance in the horror film 'Weapons', and appeared in 'Wolf Man,' released earlier in the year.

Garner admitted that the enthusiastic response to these projects still feels surreal, explaining that she often forgets how far her work will ultimately reach until she witnesses the reaction from audiences worldwide.

The 'Ozark' star also shared her thoughts on the emotional power of cinema. She emphasised how films can capture real, fleeting moments and preserve them for audiences, creating a shared connection that helps people feel less alone. For Julia Garner, art is a unifying force, one that stands in contrast to the divisions often caused by politics.

The actress appeared onstage with the music legend in Brooklyn during her Celebration Tour and later joined her at a private birthday party. Madonna herself hinted at progress in mid-2024, teasing a script with the working title 'Who’s That Girl,' a nod to her 1987 film and chart-topping single. Garner has also acknowledged in interviews that the project is still expected to move forward.

Beyond her Madonna-inspired projects, Julia Garner is preparing for her next major role in Netflix's 'The Altruists.' The drama is based on the downfall of crypto exchange FTX and its controversial founder, Sam Bankman-Fried. Garner will portray Caroline Ellison, his former business partner, in a series set to spark just as much conversation as her recent film and television work.
