Kate Hudson is looking back on a big career what-if.

During a recent appearance on 'Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen' on 22nd December 2025, the actress revealed that she once turned down the role of Mary Jane in the 2002 film 'Spider-Man,' a part that ultimately went to Kirsten Dunst.

When asked whether she regretted passing on the role, Hudson explained that talking about these moments can feel uncomfortable because the actors who ended up in the film were meant to be there. She shared that life unfolds the way it’s supposed to, but admitted that, looking back, being part of the 'Spider-Man' franchise would have been pretty special.

The role became a major one, as Dunst went on to star opposite Tobey Maguire in three 'Spider-Man' films directed by Sam Raimi between 2002 and 2007.

Kate Hudson said her decision at the time came down to choosing another project, 'The Four Feathers,' where she starred alongside the late Heath Ledger. That choice led to a meaningful friendship and an experience she says she wouldn't trade. While she sometimes thinks it would have been fun to play Mary Jane, she remains grateful for how things worked out.

Dunst has previously said she would be open to returning as MJ someday, even joking in a past interview that she would now be an older version of the character with Spider-Man kids.

As for Kate Hudson, she's moving forward with new projects, including the upcoming film 'Song Sung Blue', where she stars alongside Hugh Jackman. Jackman recently praised her performance, saying she deserves serious awards recognition and predicting that an Oscar could be in her future.
