Keanu Reeves steps away from high-octane action and into celestial comedy with his latest role as a well-meaning but awkward guardian angel in ‘Good Fortune’. The upcoming film, written and directed by Aziz Ansari, marks a sharp turn for the ‘John Wick’ star, who brings a divine twist to his on-screen presence.
Set to hit theatres on 17th October, ‘Good Fortune’ also stars Seth Rogen, Keke Palmer, and Sandra Oh. The story centres around Gabriel, an angel played by Keanu Reeves, whose attempts to guide two very different men—an overworked gig worker (Ansari) and a privileged venture capitalist (Rogen)—lead to unpredictable and hilarious results.

According to the official synopsis, the film explores themes of fate, class, and redemption, all while delivering a healthy dose of comedic chaos. Gabriel may be clumsy, but his heart is in the right place as he disrupts the lives of his earthly subjects in an effort to push them toward something better.
While filming ‘Good Fortune’, Keanu Reeves had a real-life mishap that added some drama behind the scenes. A hidden dip on the floor caused Reeves to slip during a chilly plunge scene with Ansari and Rogen. The fall caused a painful injury to his knee, which he later described as cracking sharply, much like a potato chip. Despite the pain, Reeves maintained his usual good humour and continued with filming.
Keanu Reeves recalled being wrapped in a towel and shuffling in the cold when his foot got caught in a small pocket in the flooring. The sudden shift in balance led to a hard fall, with his knee bearing the brunt of the impact. The incident may have been unfortunate, but it didn’t diminish his enthusiasm for the project or his admiration for Ansari.

Aziz Ansari, best known for his work on ‘Parks’ and ‘Recreation’, is not just starring in ‘Good Fortune’, but also making his directorial debut. He expressed his desire for the film to reignite interest in R-rated comedies at the box office. In his view, the decline in theatrical comedies has less to do with audience disinterest and more to do with the lack of fresh content being produced.
He hopes ‘Good Fortune’ can serve as proof that there’s still a strong appetite for original, well-made comedy films in theatres. If successful, he’s optimistic it could spark a new wave of projects, though ideally, not lazy imitations of his own.

Keanu Reeves praised Ansari as a multi-talented creative force, calling the experience of working with him incredibly rewarding. With Lionsgate backing the production and a high-profile cast on board, ‘Good Fortune’ promises to be both a laugh-out-loud comedy and a heartfelt story about second chances, guided by an angel who’s a bit rough around the edges.
Whether you're a fan of offbeat humour, star-studded casts, or simply curious to see Keanu Reeves trade guns for wings, Good Fortune is one comedy to watch out for this fall.
