Kehlani Breaks Silence on Cult Allegations And Custody Battle With Ex Javaughn Young-White

Amid a heated custody battle with ex-partner Javaughn Young-White, popstar Kehlani has finally addressed the swirling allegations linking them to a cult. The allegations have surfaced as Young-White seeks full custody of their 5-year-old daughter, Adeya Nomi. The pair, who were romantically involved from 2018 to 2019, now find themselves embroiled in a highly publicised legal dispute.

In a recent Instagram statement, the singer expressed frustration over how their silence on the matter has been misconstrued. Kehlani, 29, clarified that their quietness stems from a focus on their daughter’s well-being, not a lack of concern. “My silence is focus. I am focused on my daughter. I’m tired of my silence being framed as anything but. My daughter & the work I have to continue to her life remains as wonderful as it is my focus,” they wrote in the since-expired Instagram story.

The musician also highlighted their commitment as a mother and a believer in God, insisting that privacy and focus are their current priorities. Despite the challenges, Kehlani emphasised that they harbour no ill will, even towards those who do not wish them well.

The drama began when Young-White, an internet personality and Kehlani’s former partner, filed legal documents earlier this week, seeking full custody of Adeya. In these documents, he alleged that Kehlani was involved in a cult, which he claimed had orchestrated Adeya’s home birth. Young-White further alleged that the birth certificate does not include his name due to the unconventional circumstances of the birth.

Additionally, he accused the cult of controlling Kehlani’s actions and claimed that Adeya was often left with strangers from the group.

Kehlani responded swiftly to these accusations, issuing a statement that categorically denied the claims. The former PopLyfe member labelled the allegations as “inaccurate, inappropriate and simply untrue,” and expressed the deep hurt they felt over the situation. They also defended their former religious community, rejecting the characterisation of it as a cult.

Kehlani assured fans and the media that they would handle the matter legally and requested privacy during this difficult time. “My child and my commitment to motherhood have always been my sole driving forces in this life and will always remain so…” their statement read.

Interestingly, Young-White later retracted the cult claims, stating that the language used in the legal documents had not been approved by him. In a follow-up Instagram post, he expressed regret over the inclusion of the cult references, calling them “factually incorrect.”

The singer welcomed Adeya on 23rd March 2019, after a year of dating Young-White. The couple, who had kept much of their relationship private, had announced their pregnancy just a week after going public with their romance. At the time, Kehlani had described Young-White as their “best friend,” revealing that they had planned the pregnancy during a break from touring to fully embrace the joys of parenthood.
