Box Office Success Fuelled by Nostalgia and Innovation
From its first weekend of sales, which brought in $146 million domestically, Lilo & Stitch demonstrated its appeal on a global scale. The film reimagined the original 2002 animated masterpiece by skilfully fusing humour, heartfelt storytelling, and breath-taking computer graphics. In this contemporary reinvention, Dean Fleischer Camp skilfully strikes a balance between visual extravaganza and emotional depth, and Maia Kealoha's breakthrough performance as Lilo perfectly captures the spirit of the adored heroine. The reintroduction of Chris Sanders, who voiced Stitch in the original animated version, gives the cunning alien a more genuine voice, which fans found appealing.
