Sir Ian McKellen has sparked excitement among 'The Lord of the Rings' fans once again with a major hint about the upcoming film 'The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum.' While appearing at the 'For the Love of Fantasy' fan event in London, Ian McKellen suggested that both he and Elijah Wood may reprise their iconic roles as Gandalf and Frodo in the newly announced project directed by Andy Serkis.
The legendary actor, now 86, teased the audience by mentioning a new Middle-earth film slated to begin shooting in May. He revealed that the movie would be directed by Serkis – known to fans as Gollum – and centred around that character, before slyly adding that both Frodo and Gandalf will appear in the story. Although he didn’t directly confirm his involvement, the implication was clear enough to send fans into a frenzy.

Elijah Wood was also present at the fan event alongside fellow 'Lord of the Rings' stars Sean Astin, Billy Boyd, Dominic Monaghan and John Rhys-Davies — further fueling speculation that multiple members of the original cast may return.
Warner Bros. has not officially confirmed any casting news, but excitement continues to grow. In May 2024, the studio announced its intention for Andy Serkis to direct and reprise his role in 'The Hunt for Gollum,' with Peter Jackson and other team members attached as producers. The same creative team is also developing another Middle-earth film, though details remain under wraps.
