Mark Ruffalo recently addressed his absence from the upcoming Marvel blockbuster 'Avengers: Doomsday,' hinting that the decision was made to prevent him from inadvertently spoiling the film's plot. The Oscar-nominated actor, known for his role as Bruce Banner and the Hulk, appeared on 'The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,' where the host teased him about not being included in the film's cast announcements.

Ruffalo confirmed that Marvel decided it was safer to exclude him from the project than risk him revealing key story details. This aligns with his reputation for accidentally spoiling major plot points in the past, both on live television and social media. Notably, he once live-streamed part of 'Thor: Ragnarok' on Instagram in 2017 and revealed major details about 'Avengers: Infinity War' months before its release.

Throughout his career in the MCU, Mark Ruffalo has had several close calls with spoilers. During interviews and conventions, he has occasionally revealed surprising details about character fates and storylines, prompting Marvel to exercise caution about his appearances in projects where secrecy is crucial.

Despite his absence from 'Avengers: Doomsday,' the film's official cast—announced in March 2025—features a large ensemble of Marvel veterans, including Chris Hemsworth, Simu Liu, Robert Downey Jr., Ian McKellen, Vanessa Kirby, Anthony Mackie, Letitia Wright, and Florence Pugh. The movie continues the studio's sprawling universe and is expected to deliver high-stakes action and crossover events for longtime fans.

Mark Ruffalo is Reprising in Other Movie

While Mark Ruffalo won't appear in 'Avengers: Doomsday,' he is confirmed to reprise his role as Bruce Banner/Hulk in next year's 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day,' alongside Tom Holland, which is scheduled for release on 18th December 2026.

Ruffalo's cautious exclusion from 'Avengers: Doomsday' highlights Marvel's efforts to protect the secrecy of its narratives while ensuring the actor remains involved in the larger MCU storyline. Fans can still look forward to seeing him back in action in the Spider-Man sequel, even if the Hulk won't be part of the next Avengers ensemble.
