With humour, tequila, and, of course, no pants, Matthew McConaughey transforms one of Hollywood's most strange headlines into a cause for celebration. The Oscar-winning actor recently commemorated the anniversary of his notorious 1999 "naked bongo" arrest in a lighthearted manner with his wife, Camila Alves McConaughey. The couple transformed a crazy incident from McConaughey's past into a humorous, self-aware celebration of freedom, joy, and love in their cheeky new video for their tequila brand, Pantalones Organic Tequila.

With dramatic readings, clever cocktails, and plenty of laughs, the pair proved that no story is too wild to toast—especially when you own it completely.

A Wild Night Revisited

Matthew McConaughey, then 29 years old, was at the center of one of Hollywood's more peculiar occurrences on 25th October, 1999, when responding officers discovered him intoxicated, playing bongos, and naked at his Texas house. In the end, the marijuana possession and resisting arrest charges were dismissed, and he was fined $50 for disturbing the peace.

Fast forward to late 2025, and McConaughey, who is now 55, is revisiting that wild night in full awareness of how it has become part of his free-spirited public persona. He and Camila are embracing the memories with humour instead of remorse, focusing on how they can take back a chaotic event and incorporate it into their narrative.

The Anniversary Celebration–Tequila, No Pants and Big Laughs

McConaughey and Camila joined forces to make a video for their joint business, Pantalones Organic Tequila, in honour of its anniversary. Steve Zirnkilton, who is well-known for narrating on "Law & Order," introduces the commercial by stating, "What follows is a real police report; no names have been changed because he was totally guilty."

While Matthew sits behind bongos, this time completely dressed, providing rhythmic accompaniment, lighthearted comments, and frequent looks at the camera, Camila delivers the original police report in dramatic fashion.

Each toast between them features their tequila, as they introduce a signature cocktail dubbed the 'Pantsless & Famous' (a clever twist on the classic 'Naked & Famous') made with their Blanco tequila, Aperol, yellow chartreuse and fresh lime juice. Camila sums up the vibe, stating, "Only Matthew could turn a night like that into something we celebrate with tequila."

The Couple, The Brand and What It All Means

Matthew and Camila tied the knot in 2012 and have three children: Levi, Vida and Livingston. Together, they have developed a number of initiatives over the years, including the 'Just Keep Livin' charity and their tequila company, which they introduced in October 2023. Their relationship is frequently characterized as a collaboration in both life and business, with both parties supporting the other while adhering to their common ideals of authenticity, freedom, and a healthy dose of chaos.

By revisiting Matthew's infamous arrest with a wink and a drink, they're showing how a past moment can be reframed—from headline to shared joke to business narrative. It's a celebration of individuality ("marching to your own beat" is the tequila's tagline) and of owning your story, even the weird bits. And yes—there's a cheeky embrace of "no pants" in many of their brand campaigns, driving home that they're serious about their tequila but not about being fully serious.

Whether you're a fan of McConaughey's acting, his off-beat charisma, or just enjoy a good tequila story, this anniversary celebration reminds us that sometimes the most memorable moments are the ones you look back on, raise a glass to, and say—"Alright, alright, alright."
