Miley Cyrus isn't shy about creating her own opportunities in Hollywood.
The 33-year-old singer and songwriter revealed that she landed a writing credit on the song 'Dream As One' for the film 'Avatar: Fire and Ash' by simply putting herself out there. She shared that the opportunity came after she casually mentioned her interest in contributing music to director James Cameron while speaking with him at the 2024 D23 Expo. At the event, both Cyrus and Cameron were honoured as Disney Legends, and during their conversation, she let him know she would be happy to help if he ever needed music.
The timing worked out perfectly, as the third film in the 'Avatar' series was already in development. Cyrus explained that the collaboration came together naturally and noted that James Cameron even jokingly refers to them as legends connected through Disney.

Miley Cyrus Pitcher Other Original Songs
This approach has worked for her before. Cyrus said she took a similar route when she ended up writing the Golden Globe–nominated song 'Beautiful That Way' for 'The Last Showgirl,' starring Pamela Anderson. She shared that she made the same kind of friendly pitch to Jamie Lee Curtis, which helped open the door to that project as well.
Cyrus admitted that this bold strategy is exactly why she attended the 2025 Oscars. She said she used the event to introduce herself to filmmakers and let them know she was available to write original music. She even floated the idea to the creators of Netflix's hit series 'Baby Reindeer,' despite not knowing what direction a second season might take.

Miley Cyrus's Love For Music
For Miley Cyrus, writing music for films is deeply meaningful. She explained that songs often become inseparable from the movies they're part of, creating a lasting emotional connection for audiences. That ability to shape how a film is remembered is what draws her to these projects.
In addition to her work as a musician, Miley Cyrus continues to act. She made a cameo in 'Drive-Away Dolls' last year and previously appeared as herself in Dolly Parton's 'Mountain Magic Christmas.'
'Avatar: Fire and Ash' is now showing in theatres.
