North West Takes Over Soho in Head-to-Toe Balenciaga and Statement Designer Crocs

This week, North West went out in Manhattan's trendy Soho neighborhood as a fearless young stylist who is self-assured in her sense of style rather than just as a star kid. The 12-year-old wore an entire Balenciaga ensemble, complete with designer Crocs, oversized tees, opulent accessories, and stacked jewelry, while accompanied by a friend. 

The all-black outfit, which was apparently worth about $5,000, immediately attracted flashing cameras, raised eyebrows on social media, and reignited discussions about self-expression, style, and age.

Bold Style in Soho—The Outfit That Sparked a Storm

North opted for an all-black look for the outing, including the flagship platform 'HardCrocs' from the brand's partnership with Crocs, matching logo socks, and a baggy oversized Balenciaga football-style V-neck top with loose shorts. She carried a studded leather "La Cagole" XS shoulder bag, layered on chunky silver jewelry, and completed the look with oversized sunglasses, dark lip liner, pointed nails, and even green-tinted pigtails that peeked through her hair.

Via her mother's shared account on TikTok, the outing was captured on camera in front of the Mercer Hotel and throughout Soho, including a humorous selfie with a peace sign. North's most recent attire stands in stark contrast to her cousin's softer, more laid-back appearance, which served as a counterpoint to highlight her edgy aesthetic.

Outcry, Support—and A Young Fashion Voice Finding Herself

Reactions poured in, as expected. Some fans mocked the look—calling it over-the-top for a child, with comments like "if spoiled had a face" or "12 years old looking like 22-year-old." By putting on a brand that had previously drawn criticism caused others to further raise eyebrows. 

But amid the criticism, there was also support. Her mother, Kim Kardashian, has often defended North's right to express herself. Kim explained in a recent interview that while some outfits are "mistakes," she believes in allowing her daughter creative freedom—"if you want blue hair, it is what it is."

North has experimented before—from hairstyle changes to bold fashion choices, like a corset-and-miniskirt look abroad, and even temporary face tattoos, grillz, and contact lenses during a concert. She has encountered waves of worry and criticism each time, but she seems unfazed to the reactions.
