Orlando Bloom may not be finished with Middle-earth just yet. The 48-year-old English actor recently reflected on the possibility of reprising his iconic role as the elf warrior Legolas in the upcoming film 'The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum.'

During a recent appearance on the Today Show, Bloom explained that he has not been approached about joining the cast of the new instalment, which is directed by Andy Serkis. Since the focus of the story will be on Gollum, he admitted that anything could happen when it comes to familiar characters returning.

Orlando Bloom recalled how Peter Jackson originally brought him back for 'The Hobbit' trilogy after his breakthrough role in the Oscar-winning 'The Lord of the Rings' films. For him, Legolas remains one of the most rewarding characters of his career, and he expressed gratitude for being part of such a groundbreaking franchise.

Orlando Bloom's Thoughts on Legolas Being Recast

While the actor has not received any official word on appearing in 'The Hunt for Gollum,' he made it clear that he would struggle to see anyone else take on the role of Legolas. He joked that modern filmmaking and artificial intelligence could technically make it possible, but stressed that his portrayal is deeply tied to the character's legacy.

Balancing Middle-earth With New Roles

Away from Tolkien's fantasy universe, Orlando Bloom continues to push himself with challenging roles. His recent film, 'The Cut,' which premiered at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival, required him to play a boxer consumed by extreme discipline and obsession with weight loss. The actor has described the physical and mental toll of preparing for the part as one of the toughest experiences of his career.

Bloom’s slate of upcoming work— 'Deep Cover,' 'Bucking Fastard,' and 'Wizards!'—continues to showcase his versatility, reminding audiences he's far more than the iconic archer he once played.

A Reunion on the Horizon?

With 'The Hunt for Gollum' set for release on 17th December, 2027, speculation about returning cast members is already building. Sir Ian McKellen recently hinted that Gandalf and Frodo will return in the upcoming story, implying that both he and Elijah Wood are prepared to revisit their iconic characters. If that holds true, it could greatly increase the likelihood of Orlando Bloom reprising his role as Legolas alongside them.

As fans await confirmation, one thing is clear: Bloom’s connection to Legolas remains unshakable, and Middle-earth may not have seen the last of him.
