A North American release date has been set for Paolo Sorrentino's 'La Grazia,' which received a four-minute standing ovation on the opening night of the Venice Film Festival 2025. With a profoundly philosophical and emotionally complex portrayal of a man at the intersection of power and mortality, the celebrated director of 'The Great Beauty' and 'The Hand of God' makes a comeback. The movie will be released in theaters in the United States on 5th December, thanks to MUBI's acquisition of the distribution rights.

A President Faces His Conscience: Story and Cast Highlights
In 'La Grazia,' Toni Servillo, a longtime Sorrentino collaborator, plays Mariano De Santis, the imaginary president of Italy. In the final weeks of his president, De Santis must decide whether to approve a contentious euthanasia measure and whether to pardon two women who were found guilty of killing their violent spouses. He is forced to face his own history, legacy, and humanity as a result of these existential rather than merely political decisions. This essential moral and emotional reckoning is referenced in the title of the movie, 'La Grazia,' which translates to "The Pardon" or "Grace."

Silvio Orlando, Fabrizio Bentivoglio, and Bianca Nappi are all part of the cast, which gives the president's personal connections, legal system, and political environment more nuance and complexity. As anticipated from Sorrentino, the film brings elegance to even its most difficult emotional moments by striking a balance between poetic visual storytelling and intellectual rigor.
Venice Acclaim, Trailer Insights & US Release Details
The film's reflective tone, set against a sweeping orchestral soundtrack and stunning, symmetrical photography that has come to define Sorrentino's work, was hinted at in the first teaser, which was released just before the film's 27th August, Venice premiere. Deliberate, slow pictures highlight the loneliness and stress that characterize high office by showcasing De Santis in solemn settings, on late-night strolls through Rome, and silently thinking about photos and documents. The film received accolades from Venice critics for its understated elegance, quiet power, and Servillo's subtle, eerie performance.
