Robert Pattinson has opened up about the enduring legacy of 'Twilight,' weeks after Stephenie Meyer's first novel in the hit vampire series celebrated its 20th anniversary.

The original 'Twilight' book, published on 5th October, became a global sensation, spawning three sequels and a blockbuster movie franchise. Pattinson starred as Edward Cullen alongside Kristen Stewart, who played Bella Swan, a teenage girl who falls in love with a mysterious vampire.

The first film, released in November 2008, transformed both actors into international stars. Before taking on the iconic role, Robert Pattinson had appeared in 'Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire,' 'Vanity Fair,' and 'The Haunted Airman.' However, 'The Twilight Saga' propelled him to superstardom, with the five movies earning more than $3.3 billion at the global box office. 'New Moon,' the second film, became one of the highest-grossing openings of all time, pulling in nearly $275 million worldwide in its debut weekend.

Robert Pattinson Shares Feelings to be Associated With 'Twilight'

During the New York City premiere of his latest film, 'Die My Love,' Robert Pattinson reflected on how remarkable it feels to still be associated with 'Twilight' so many years later. He shared that he continues to receive questions about the franchise every day and finds it astonishing how deeply the story continues to resonate with fans. The actor expressed gratitude for the experience, saying he looks back on it with affection and pride.

Although Robert Pattinson once described 'Twilight' as a "weird story" back in 2019, he has since acknowledged that the saga's influence has far outlasted his expectations. Earlier this year, he remarked that it's surprising people still bring it up two decades after the novel's release. 

The star also commented on how some critics continue to blame the series for altering the vampire genre, something he finds both amusing and unbelievable, given how much time has passed.

In a separate interview in February, Robert Pattinson mentioned that it feels unusual but rewarding to see his fanbase evolve. While 'Twilight' made him a teenage heartthrob primarily among young female audiences, he has noticed an increase in male fans over recent years, something he described as a unique shift in his career.

Robert Pattinson Speaks About 'Die My Love' And His Co-star

At the 'Die My Love' premiere, Robert Pattinson also spoke warmly about working with Jennifer Lawrence, who plays his on-screen partner in the black comedy-drama. He said that despite not knowing each other beforehand, they instantly connected over shared life experiences and mutual respect for one another's work.

The actor, who shares a young daughter with fiancée Suki Waterhouse, revealed that fatherhood gave him a new emotional perspective while filming. He noted that the infants used on set were the same age as his daughter, which made the experience even more personal and authentic.

'Die My Love,' directed by Lynne Ramsay, hits cinemas on 7th November. The film follows a new mother struggling with postpartum depression and psychosis, with critics already calling it a powerful, awards-worthy performance from Lawrence.
